Harley-Davidson Riding Academy Gear

As many of you know, Wilkins had their first Riding Academy class this past week and it was a good reminder for us that riding gear is an important part of make the ride the best it can be. All Riding Academy students are given the “checklist” of gear that is required for the class and even if you have been riding for years it is a pretty helpful reminder of what are the essentials to make you safe, but also comfortable.

Harley-Davidson Riding Gear

Yes, gear is there for the obvious protective reasons BUT the right gear can also make the experience go from good to great. Because when you have the right gear, for the right function, with the right fit you don’t have to think about it. And your focus can be on everything else.

Just like the right foot pegs, seat, saddlebags or windshield can make all the difference in the comfort and function of the bike. The right gear can make or break the ride. Imagine a helmet not fitting correctly giving you either discomfort because it hurts, the wind is catching and pulling it up or the noise is so overwhelming your ears are ringing by the time you make you first stop.  Imagine some of the chillier moments on a motorcycle.  We aren't just trying to sell you gear.  We want to also enhance the experience.  Just ask John about his FXRG gear he wears when he rides, you'll never see him cold.

Even if you have gear, if you haven’t reviewed it in a while it is probably worth an assessment to ensure it still does what you need it to do. Remember, a lot of technology has probably progressed since the last time you bought gear.  For instance, the FXRG jacket John wears has new technology in the liner that actually radiates heat back to your body and retains over 30% increase in warmth.  30% increase!

Another example, a helmet has a shelf life of 3-5 years (depending on how you take care of it) and rain gear is significantly different than it was just 2-3 years ago. Not to mention the improved performance of reflective materials that allow you to be seen in a wide range of weather conditions in day and night.

So heading into the peak riding season, take the time to review your gear. If you want to make the most of the limited time you have given our fickle Vermont weather it is worth the investment to ensure your riding gear is doing what it needs to maximize your enjoyment factor!
