Spring Is upon Us!

What could be more exciting for a Harley-Davidson rider in the middle of a chilly Vermont winter than anticipating the upcoming riding season? Everyone here at Wilkins can hardly wait to get out and ride this season. Surely, you too are dreaming of the warm evening rides, the adventures, and most of all, getting to spend some quality time with your Harley-Davidson motorcycle and your riding companions.

Today I’m going to be asking Alex (The “Falcon”) what he is excited for in the upcoming riding season.

"The biggest thing I’m looking forward to in the upcoming riding season is really just seeing all of my friends and family who also ride Harleys. For me, that is how I get right back into riding season.  You know, you see your friends who you may not have seen in months but as soon as it’s time to ride again, you get to reconnect with your community. For me, riding is really a relationship-based hobby of mine.
Also, I’m really looking forward to the physical feeling of riding, being able to get outdoors in nature, and enjoy the freedom that it provides me. I feel like the nice weather brings out a sense of community for bikers that just isn’t as noticeable in the winter time.
My favorite rides of the year are the bike nights we do here at Wilkins. I do a lot of riding with my Brother and I have a couple close friends I ride with. We don’t get to ride together as much as I would like. But, I ride every day that I can in the summer with the guys here at work.
I think it just adds a different element to our friendship when you can go and be like “Hey look do you want to go grab lunch? Let take a couple bikes!” It’s one of those things… even though you are riding with other people, you are still having your own individual experience. At the end of the day, I’m on my own bike and in control of what’s happening. Having the ability to experience freedom like this is pretty unique feeling. I really enjoy it."

As you can tell Alex is ready to be riding with all of his good friends that he has made in past riding seasons. While interviewing him, I could tell he was genuinely enthusiastic about time spent with fellow riders. Alex sees other Harley riders as more than his close friends, he sees them as family. I believe he sees all Harley riders as his family because he has accepted Harley-Davidson as his culture. When Alex is riding his Harley down the road and sees another human riding a Harley, he instantly connects with them. Maybe a quick biker wave as he passes is all the interaction they have. However, Alex thinks of that random Harley rider going in the opposite direction as a Brother or Sister and wishes them safe travels during their brief encounter. Alex is experiencing the culture that is at the heart of Harley-Davidson- riders who not only love to ride but who also love the community/family aspect.
